驅動觀者的觀看視線 引導讀者走進故事裡

Arranging Light and Shadows Through Editing
Directing Viewers’ Gaze, Leading Them into the Story
Or Lightbox, a cinema opened in early 2022, is nestled in an alley near the Hsinchu East Gate Market and also houses a bookstore dedicated to film literature. Tsinghua University’s long-standing campus film festival Night Owl Cinema, now almost two decades old, has continued to inspire film lovers with thematic screenings. This fall, they collaborate to present a lecture series on editing film books. Under the theme of “Curating on Paper,” these sessions explore theme-based film books, original and translated works, and film magazine publications, shedding light on the editors behind the scenes and how their “editing techniques” shape the reading experience and broaden the way we view films.
Session 1|From Editing Films to Editing Books: The Structure Behind a Book
Date| 10/28 (Fri) 19:00-21:00
Speaker| Chen Yanshou (Senior Editor at Yuan-Liou Publishing)
Using the role of a “film editor” to understand “book editors,” Chen will discuss the production of Puzzle David Fincher, Leaving as the Self I Love, and the series script book I Do, sharing core aspects of editorial work.
Session 2|Re-editing Film History: Memories of the Future - A Memorandum for the 40th Anniversary of Taiwan New Cinema
Date| 11/11 (Fri) 19:00-21:00
Speaker| Sun Song-Rong (Professor at National Taipei University of the Arts, Editor-in-Chief of Art Criticism)
Using his experience editing Memories of the Future, published in July 2022, Sun will illustrate how editing can serve as a method to propose alternative ways of studying and viewing film history.
Session 3|Don’t Become an Editor (Unless You Have To): From 0 to 12 – An Obsessive Editor’s Journey
Date| 12/09 (Fri) 19:00-21:00
Speaker| You Qianhui (Editor-in-Chief of OS Voiceover)
You will discuss her journey from academic research to her editorial experiences, including her latest project, OS Voiceover, a film magazine.
