2022 Applied Materials Arts Season: Sound Living, Light Scenery
Connecting the cultural pulse of humanity and nature,
blending sound, light, and environmental technology art,
exploring the position of humanity in the city and nature
through visual and auditory dimensions.

The 2022 Applied Materials Arts Season, curated by light sculpture artist Chen Yi-Chieh, centers on the theme "Sound Living, Light Scenery." Alongside technology artists Lin Kun-Ying and musicians Ke Zhi-Hao and Hsu Yu-Ying, five lectures and two guided walks in the city of Zhuqi will be held in November, connecting Tainan and Hsinchu. The aim is to lead the audience to recognize the beauty of Taiwan and experience life through the light and sound of contemporary living.

The five lectures will explore themes such as "Echoes of Natural Light and Shadow, Fusion of Urban Light and Soundscapes, Stories of Light and Sound on Treasure Island, The Island’s Vibrant Voice, and Contemporary Sound and Light Wandering." These themes will weave together light sculpture, technology art, and music, bringing the aesthetics of sound and light to every corner of the city, re-exploring the relationship between people, cities, and nature, showcasing the beauty of co-existence between humanity and Taiwan.

Lecture Description:
Capturing the "soundscape" of urban nature,
experiencing echoes that converse with primitive traditions,
allowing every fleeting moment of listening and gazing
to become a beautiful starting point of everyday life.

In the fast-paced contemporary life, how can we slow down and listen to the voice within ourselves? This lecture invites light sculpture artist Chen Yi-Chieh and musician Ke Zhi-Hao to discuss their collaboration on the "Taiwan High-Speed Rail Art Project," sharing their creative concepts and stories. The audience will hear the dialogue between urban spaces and natural soundscapes, experiencing art unexpectedly amidst the busyness of life through music, lighting, projections, and AR interactive imagery. Participants will feel the primitive ecology of nature and the emotional impact of sound landscapes, immersing themselves in an artistic feast full of light, sound, and color.

In the "Taiwan High-Speed Rail Art Project," light sculpture artist Chen Yi-Chieh presents the visual work "Forest Landscape," developed from two years of ecological research along ancient paths, showcasing the ecological perspectives of hidden landscapes. Award-winning musician Ke Zhi-Hao transforms the Bunun traditional song "Hunting Ritual Song," which expresses blessings for travelers and hopes for a bountiful harvest, into an announcement sound for high-speed rail carriages. The combination of light sculpture performance and sound art connects culture and nature, allowing us to feel the lasting resonance of art in life.

Lecture sessions are eligible for certification of teacher training hours or civil servant lifelong learning hours.
