Chen Shu-wei and Luo Yi-chu are artists at the Taiwan D. B. Art Collective, which was established in 2016 in Guandu. The school, operating in a 20-ping space, nurtures children with autism who are outside the formal education system. It provides a blueprint for daily living and learning, along with catalytic education related to art skills. The goal is to sustain the artistic creation of the students and assist them in becoming self-sufficient through their own art. The Taiwan D. B. Art Collective serves as a bridge for social interaction, allowing society to understand autistic students through the lens of art—one of the most beautiful aspects of life—and to discover the beauty and brilliance that arise from differences in life.
Chen Shu-wei, born in 1976, understands only simple and repetitive daily routines. For 40 years, he has wished for "simplicity" in everything, and social learning only causes him anxiety. He interprets plants, animals, and nature through unique lines and shapes, embodying a beauty in simplicity.
Luo Yichu, born in 1992, has an innate creative talent but struggles with verbal expression. She often draws with her head down, unable to stop for hours. When she doesn’t have a pen or paper, she moves her fingers in the air to "draw," with the images forming in her mind. Her rich and vibrant visual language and intricate thoughts are also reflected in her use of color, with overlapping, interweaving, and blending hues revealing subtle and rich tones from beneath. Art is a pure expression of Yichu’s essence and the initial motivation behind her drawing.
