Chen Shu-Wei and Luo Yi-Chu are students at Taiwan D. B. Art Collective, which was founded in 2016 in Guandu. The academy, housed in a 20-ping space, nurtures children with autism who are outside the conventional educational system. It offers a blueprint for life skills and arts-based education, fostering their artistic creativity while helping them achieve self-sufficiency through their art. Taiwan D. B. Art Collective acts as a bridge for social interaction, allowing society to recognize the unique beauty and brilliance of autistic students through their artistic expression, highlighting the splendor that emerges from life's differences.
Chen Shu-Wei, born in 1976, understands only simple and repetitive routines in daily life. For 40 years, he has only wished for things to be "simple." Learning societal norms only causes him anxiety. His art, characterized by unique and expressive lines, interprets plants, animals, and nature in what can be called the beauty of simplicity.
Luo Yi-Chu, born in 1992, has a natural talent for creativity but struggles with verbal expression. She often immerses herself in drawing for hours without stopping. Even without paper or a pen, her fingers trace the air when she feels the urge to draw, and images form vividly in her mind. Her artwork is rich with vibrant imagery, and her delicate thoughts are reflected in her use of colors—layered, intertwined, and fused—revealing subtle and intricate tones. For Yi-Chu, artistic creation is the purest expression of her essence and her original intention of drawing.
