"Forms: Carrying and Placing" is a reflection and retrospective of artist Lin Wan-Shih’s long-standing engagement with contemporary art. His work encapsulates moments in time, personal reflections on life, attitudes, and imagination, embodying a unique life philosophy. Through his artistic exploration, time and space become vessels of memory, unfolding into boundless contemplation. The exhibition features both paintings and spatial installations.

In the 1990s, Lin departed from his established achievements in traditional realism and resolutely pursued contemporary artistic thought at Goldsmiths, University of London. His creative process remains deeply rooted in nature—through keen observation and introspection, landscapes are reinterpreted into ethereal and transient realms within his studio. His works, both in two-dimensional and spatial forms, often depict elements laden with the essence of time and history, such as stones, the sea, pillars, and celestial bodies. These motifs manifest with intricate textures, subtle ambiguities, and an ever-shifting sense of reality.

Lin Wan-Shih presents existence as a test of patience, an endless state of waiting akin to the futile anticipation in Waiting for Godot. His imagery—rock formations, pillars, tides, and the cosmos—conveys an interplay of light and shadow, illusion and reality, and a rhythmic sense of color. His artistic reinterpretations achieve a minimalist ideal while subtly harboring an energy of unrest. His work naturally invites viewers to engage in introspective questioning. The seeming chaos of his forms ultimately adheres to an underlying order, perpetually evolving yet firmly grounded—like the unceasing cycles of nature and the universe, where emptiness and clarity coexist in a profound equilibrium.
