“Weaving with Nature: Rush Craft Workshop”

Discovering Rush × Traditional Craft × Coaster Making

Have you heard of “rush grass”? On a hot summer day, putting on a straw hat and catching a whiff of its gentle grassy fragrance might bring back memories of a refreshing summer breeze. In fact, the very first straw hat in Taiwan’s history was woven from rush grass! Once one of the most common natural fibers in daily life, rush grass was crafted into coasters, hats, mats, and cushions—intertwining generations of memory and wisdom rooted in the land.

In this workshop, we have invited master artisan Chen Xiulou (Lou-lou) to guide you through the world of rush grass—learning its history, smelling its fragrance, and experiencing the charm of traditional weaving. Come and enjoy the joy of handicraft as you weave your own story with nature!
