Arranging Light and Shadows Through Editing
Directing Viewers’ Gaze, Leading Them into the Story
Or Lightbox, a cinema opened in early 2022, is nestled in an alley near the Hsinchu East Gate Market and also houses a bookstore dedicated to film literature. Tsinghua University’s long-standing campus film festival Night Owl Cinema, now almost two decades old, has continued to inspire film lovers with thematic screenings. This fall, they collaborate to present a lecture series on editing film books. Under the theme of “Curating on Paper,” these sessions explore theme-based film books, original and translated works, and film magazine publications, shedding light on the editors behind the scenes and how their “editing techniques” shape the reading experience and broaden the way we view films.
